The "Awakening" sculpture was created by American sculptor J. Seward Johnson, Jr. It stands 72 feet (approximately 22 meters) tall and consists of five independent components. As part of the 11th Annual Sculpture Conference in Washington, D.C., the sculpture was later purchased by real estate developer Milton Peterson for over $700,000 in 2007. In 2008, it was relocated to National Harbor in Prince George's County, Maryland, and installed on an artificial beach along the Potomac River.(Awakening, exhibited at the G8 Environmental Summit in Siracusa, Italy: Created by Seward Johnson, ? 1980 by the American Sculpture Foundation.
